ADC launches New Name of the Association

The Association of Defence Counsel practising before the ICTY changed its name on 1 June 2017 to the 'Association of Defence Counsel practising before the International Courts and Tribunals'. The ADC was first established in 2002 at the initiation of the judges of the ICTY to represent all defence counsel practising before the ICTY. It was subsequently the association which represented all counsel practising before the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT). Under the rules of procedure and evidence it is required that all counsel who wish to be on the lists of counsel both at the ICTY and MICT are members of an association of defence counsel recognised by the Registrar. The ADC is the sole association of counsel recognised by both the ICTY and the MICT. With the ICTY closing its doors at the end of 2017 the General Assembly of the Association made a decision to change its name to continue beyond the end of the ICTY.
