Group of Lawyers from Ancona Visit the ICTY/MICT

On Friday 30 June 2017, a group of ten lawyers from Ancona, Italy, visited the ICTY and MICT. They were given presentations by ICTY staff members and also by ADC Vice President, Dragan Ivetic. Mr. Ivetic spoke to the group about the defence at the Tribunals and the importance of maintaining fair trial rights.

ICTY Sarajevo Legacy Conference

The final ICTY Legacy Conference is taking place between 22 and 24 June in Sarajevo. The ADC President, Branko Lukic, Vice President, Marie O'Leary and Head of Office, Dominic Kennedy are attending as well as other members of the Association. On 23 June there will be a panel on Defence and Fair Trial Rights, further information will follow after the conference.

ADC June Newsletter Published

On 20 June 2017, the ADC published its monthly newsletter. The issue includes news from the ADC-ICT, the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia. It also includes an ICL News Round-Up as well as jobs and opportunities. The newsletter is available here.

ADC-ICT Represented at ICC Legal Aid Consultations

On 19 June 2017, Dragan Ivetic, Vice President and Dominic Kennedy, Head of Office attended a day of consultations at the ICC on the Legal Aid System. The day was moderated by Sir Judge Howard Morrison and was attended by the ICC Registrar and representatives from the international courts and tribunals. Various aspects of the legal aid provisions were discussed with the aim of improving the situation for defence and victims counsel and their staff at the ICC.

ADC Mock Trial 2017

The ADC Mock Trial took place on Saturday 17 June 2017, twenty five participants took part in Courtroom 1 at the ICTY/MICT. The fictional war crimes case included a variety of legal issues to argue in court during the day. The judges for the day were Judge Janet Nosworthy, Judge Justice Moloto and Thomas Hannis. Congratulations to all who took part, the standard of the advocacy was excellent. At the end of the day the judges decided that there were four participants who were awarded joint best oralist. These were: Conall Bailie and Daniel Sisgoreo from the Prosecution and Elisa Binon and Chloé Faucourt from the Defence. Photos from the Mock Trial can be found in the gallery.

ADC Mock Trial Week Commences

On Monday 12 June, the ADC's annual Mock Trial commenced. The week long training includes lectures on trial advocacy, legal drafting, oral advocacy for defence and prosecution, opening and closing statements and legal ethics. The week culminates with a full day inside the ICTY/MICT courtroom for a mock war crimes trial in front of international judges. This year there are approximately 20 participants from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities. The ADC conducts regular training sessions for legal professionals, students and interns, further information on future events is available on the Training page.

Group of Lawyers from Bologna Visit the Tribunal

On Friday 2 June 2017, a group of lawyers from Bologna visited the Tribunal and were given a presentation by ADC Vice President, Dragan Ivetic. Mr. Ivetic gave the twenty visitors information about the ICTY and MICT as well as the role and function of the defence at the Tribunals. The group were visiting The Hague for three days to gain insights into the different international courts and tribunals which are hosted in the city.
